HC Truck Licence Training

Heavy Combination (HC) Truck Licence Course

This course equips you with the skills and knowledge required to drive a Heavy Combination Truck (semi-trailer) and obtain your HC Driver’s Licence, as per South Australian licensing standards.

Pre-requisites

You must meet the minimum training, age (19) and/or driving experience (2 years) or  requirements set by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).

You must hold a current South Australian driver’s licence.

Any existing medical conditions must be disclosed at the time of enrolment. Some conditions may affect your eligibility for a heavy vehicle licence.

Car to HC: You must first complete the 2-day TILE (Training in Lieu of Experience) theory course.

Important Information

Students are required to pay a $500 deposit (due within 7 days of booking, prior to the TILE course date).

Restricted licences for 18 year olds: Available for the delivery of farm produce (Primary Producer permits). Please enquire with Service SA for details.

CITB Funding: Eligible South Australian construction industry members with a valid CITB number may receive $1,065 off the cost of the course (subject to availability and approval).

Achievement Certification

Unrestricted Road Ranger or Auto Gearbox Available for HC Driver's Licence.

Unrestricted - Approximately 24.5 training hours

Automatic - Approximately 12 training hours

Skills Gained
  • Use vehicle and systems required during Heavy Combination driving tasks.
  • Utilise operational and maintenance procedures and systems for Heavy Combination driving tasks.
  • Read and interpret relevant regulations, instructions, signs and labels applicable to Heavy Combination vehicle driving.
  • Loading and securing Heavy Combination (vehicle and trailer).

What to Bring

  • Photo identification (ie Australian drivers licence, passport)
  • Driver's Licence and abide by Conditions of you current licence - eg wear prescription spectacles.
  • Wear enclosed footwear.
  • TILE Certificate (if applicable)
